Ocean Yacht systems UK recently turned to Morris Material Handling, the UK's leading crane and hoist manufacturer to help improve manufacturing efficiency and productivity in their new factory. To keep up with an increase in customer demand and an influx of larger projects they selected Morris Material Handling, to design, manufacture and install a new slewing/grabbing overhead travelling crane for their new premises in Christchurch, Dorset.

As global leader in Superyacht rigging and hydraulic systems, Ocean Yacht Systems UK designs and manufactures complete "state of the art" rigging systems for a wide range of boats. These range from 90 metre Superyachts, through high performance cruiser racers, Grand Prix and Maxi race boats, Volvo (Whitbread) 60, Americas Cup and other race and cruise boats down to 10 metres.

The double girder, 5 tonne crane is designed to handle complete rigging assemblies and components for Superyacht hydraulic systems. It is radio controlled, spans 18 metres and its design incorporates a 12 metre long rotating lifting beam with 4 lifting points equally spaced to aid stability.

Wayne Shatwell, Commercial Director of Ocean Yacht Systems said "The crane enables complete rigging assemblies to be safely and easily rotated 360 degrees in less than one minute, by one man. It is also able to handle with ease, the largest components needed for our Super Yacht hydraulic systems, the longest of which to date is a 4.8 metre Vang. This will significantly improve productivity and reduce operator fatigue, as jobs that previously took 2 hours can now be done in 20 minutes."
